Introducing Our New Tartan for Hire: Scottish Borderland Weathered
We’re delighted to welcome a beautiful new addition to our hire collection – the Scottish Borderland Weathered tartan, a richly atmospheric design that perfectly captures the spirit of the Scottish Borders.
Woven from 100% Pure New Wool right here in Scotland, this medium weight tartan is ideal for kilts, jackets, waistcoats, and even homeware or craft projects. Its unique colour palette blends olive green and blue tones, accented with light blue, yellow, and camel overchecks – an earthy yet refined combination that feels both timeless and contemporary.
The tartan was originally designed in 1996 by Alistair Buchan, then owner of Lochcarron of Scotland, and was inspired by the natural beauty of the Borders landscape. Think of the soft greens that stretch across the rolling hills from Peebles to the coast, and the muted blues and greys of the River Tweed that winds its way through the region. The result is a tartan that truly tells a story – a landscape woven into cloth.
Although the Scottish Borderland tartan is not tied to a single clan (as a district tartan, it doesn’t have a clan chief), it proudly represents a region that has long been home to some of Scotland’s most well-known border families, including the Elliots and the Scotts. Historically, the relationships between these clans ranged from uneasy alliances to outright feuds, all adding to the rich tapestry of Border history.
Whether you're looking for something distinctive for a special occasion or simply love the idea of wearing a tartan steeped in character and heritage, the Scottish Borderland Weathered is a fine choice – and now available to hire!
