Kilt Hire at Tartan Plus Tweed

Events Tartan

Are you interested in hiring a kilt for your upcoming event? But maybe you don’t know where to start? Maybe you’re worried about wearing a kilt because you’ve never tried one on before? If you can relate to any of these questions don’t worry! At Tartan Plus Tweed we really pride ourselves on making the customer comfortable and listening to your wants and needs throughout your entire fitting.

Tartan Plus Tweed offers a range of tartans and jackets for hire. Currently we can offer 12 tartans for hire and 5 different jackets for hire. This is a huge achievement for us, as about 10 years ago we only had about 2 different jackets for hire, and only a couple tartans to choose from. Our tartans are mainly non-clan tartans, meaning they are suitable for everyone to wear. If you’re worried that your family doesn’t have a tartan or maybe you don’t like your family tartan, that’s okay! You can choose something completely different because remember you’re the one wearing the outfit - not us!

All of our kilts available to hire are all handmade and made from cloth that is woven in Scotland. Our jackets also all come from a Scottish owned company, and the fabric is made in Scotland as well. Our sporrans? Also all made in Scotland from a Scottish owned company. Our socks? Also all made by a Scottish owned company. We really do try our best to source highland wear that is made as close to home as possible. All of this is so you can be sure that you are wearing proper Scottish Highland wear.

When you arrange an appointment for a kilt fitting, you will come in on the day and there is a member of staff that will walk you through every step of the fitting. You can be sure that the same person will stay with you throughout your time at the shop. You will not be passed off to another member of staff, or moved from “station” to “station” like a car part on a conveyor belt. If you are unsure of what you want to wear, or have an idea but you’re not sure if it would work, we are happy to stop at any time and bounce some ideas around to help you decide what works best for you. The time during the appointment is yours to do with as you wish.

What is great about an in person appointment, is that you have the option to try on different jackets and different kilts. You can try different combinations together to see what you like best. For us, there’s nothing better than seeing a customer light up when they have found an outfit to wear that makes them feel their best. You can be sure that when you pick your final outfit, the jacket, waistcoat, and kilt will all be the exact same item of clothing that you get on the day of your event. It wont be “the same kilt, but a different size”, and it wont be “a size larger jacket because your size wasn’t available”. Everything you try on with be exactly what you get on the day, so you can be sure everything will fit just the way it did on the day of your fitting.

Book an appointment for your kilt hire fitting by calling our friendly team, or drop us an email today. We can’t wait to welcome you through our doors.

I’m wishing to rent a tartan kilt with jacket and the rest of the traditional attire with a white shirt and black tie for a formal dinner near Selkirk where I’ll be staying for a few days this autumn and I like the look of your website and the way you do the fitting with your customers

The problem is that I will not be able to arrive in the area and come in to Gala until the afternoon of 3 November and the dinner is the evening after, 4 Nov. Then I would need to return the items the day after as I will have to leave Selkirk early on the Monday morning..

Is this all going to be possible? If it would help I could give you my measurements and choice of tartan in advance?
